Jolly Old St. Nicholas

My friend Jack...errr...Santa. This photo was the digital photo of the day on Steve's Digicams and on Digital Photography World on December 25, 1999.

Long's Peak Sunset

I once climbed this mountain when I was 18 years old. It was a tough climb. From the plains, one can get a sense of the ruggedness of the 14,255 foot peak. The image was first the photo of the day on Digitale Fotographie on December 14, 1999 and later on Digital Photography World on January 3, 2000.

Kindly Mr. J

My elderly next-door neighbor likes to garden in his straw hat in the summer. His portrait won the photo of the day for October 25, 1999 in the People/Portraiture category on the Digital Photo Contest site.

Mt. Bierstadt from Guanella Pass

This panoramic was taken on the first day of fall, September 23, 1999. The location was the trailhead leading up to Mt. Bierstadt from Guanella Pass. Bierstadt had been sprinkled with snow. The mountain is 14,060 feet in altitude. The jagged formation just to the left of Bierstadt is Sawtooth Ridge. The vista was the photo of the day for October 11, 1999 in the Panoramic category on the Digital Photo Contest site.

Grains Touched by the Sun

Walking along a path by the lake, I was looking down to make sure I wasn't stepping on any snakes or anything. These tiny curled grains caught my eye. They were quite low to the ground, so I sat down on the path to frame them. This photo won the photo of the day honors for the Macro category on the Digital Photo Contest site on October 7, 1999.

Aspen Boles With Yellow Leaves

A perfect aspen forest in the fall, near Guanella Pass. The image was the photo of the day at Digitale Fotographie on October 4, 1999.

Playing in the Fountain

I ran through this computerized fountain in Denver's City Park and got soaked. After a while, I took my camera into an inner circle of the fountain, which is kind of a "safe" place. Only got a few drops on the lens, tee-hee...this photo won the photo of the day honors for the Action / Journalism category on the Digital Photo Contest site.

Doe at Sunrise

One morning up at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, I arose early to take photos of the sunrise. As I walked east, I discovered this doe in the brush. It was the photo of the day at Digital Photography World on August 15, 1999, and at Digitale Fotographie on August 21, 1999.

Japanese Garden

The Denver Botanic Gardens has a lovely Monet exhibit, complete with lily pond, bridge, and gardens. This Japanese Garden image was the photo of the day at Mavje for July 28, 1999, at Digitale Fotographie on July 31, 1999, and at Digital Photography World on August 9, 1999.

View From the Pike's Peak Cog Rail

Spectacular views can be seen during the ride up Pike's Peak on the cog rail line. This image was the Photo of the Day for July 25, 1999, at the Digital Photography World site.

Sunset Over the Mesa

For our 24th wedding anniversary, we went down to Castle Rock, Colorado. As we stepped outside, this gorgeous sunset presented itself over one of the many mesas. It won the photo of the day contest at Mavje for July 21, 1999, and for July 26, 1999, at Digitale Fotographie.

Crowfoot Valley Windmill

This image of a working windmill was taken at dusk along Crowfoot Valley Road in Douglas County. It was selected as the Photo of the Day for June 27, 1999, at the Digital Photography World site.

Colorado's Front Range at Sunset

This panoramic was selected as the Photo of the Day for June 19, 1999, at the Digital Photography World site.

Sunset Beyond an Abandoned Barn

I took this photo near Mitchell Creek Canyon. It was awarded the Photo of the Day honor for June 18, 1999, at Digitale Fotographie. It also was the Photo of the Day at the Digital Photography World site on July 10, 1999.

Windmill in a Stormy Sky

I admire this windmill along Parker Road (Highway 83), and often stop to take pictures of it. This day, the clouds were changing rapidly as I took the shots, and rain began to fall from the darker ones. The photo was selected as the Photo of the Day for May 22, 1999, at the Digital Photography World site.

New Hope at Columbine High

I felt compelled to go to the Columbine High memorials. This sweet little girl was touching the many flowers and talking to them. New hope! The photo was selected as the Image of the Month for May 1999, at Mavican.com.
