3...2...1...Glow!

One evening there was a hot air balloon "Glow" where the pilots fire their balloons in the dark. This picture was selected on September 11, 2002 to be part of the Kodak PhotoQuilt.

Red Mountain Pass in Fall

One of the most scenic drives in the whole state of Colorado is Red Mountain Pass, between Ouray and Silverton. The Yankee Girl mine was looking resplendent in her dressy fall colors. This was the Scenic Photo of the Day on bestfoto.com on October 9, 2002.

Johnny

Johnny Lewis, a hot air balloon pilot with more than 35 years of experience. This portrait was the People Photo of the Day on Digitalphotocontest.com on August 30, 2002 as well as on Bestfoto on September 3, 2002.

This Is My Mountain

A healthy bighorn sheep ram declares his territory on Guanella Pass. His image was the Animals Photo of the Day on Digitalphotocontest.com on August 23, 2002 and the Animals Photo of the Day on Bestfoto on June 5, 2002.

Aspen Forest

We found these thick aspen boles above the town of Aspen (how appropriate!). There is a hint of wild rose growing below. The photo was theLandscape/Nature Photo of the Day on Digitalphotocontest.com on September 8, 2002 as well as the Scenic Photo of the Day on Bestfoto on August 8, 2002.

Maroon Creek Wildflowers

Below Maroon Bells, wildflowers abound next to Maroon Creek. This image was the Scenic Photo of the Day on Digitalphotocontest.com on August 18, 2002.

Living Water

The Indian Peaks Wilderness is a great place to find cascades in combination with wildflowers. This scenic was the Photo of the Day on Bestfoto on August 13, 2002.

Historic Crystal Mill

This mill was built in 1893 and is still lovingly preserved by the people of Crystal City, Colorado. This is a stitch of 4 infrared photos. It was a finalist in the Betterphoto.com August 2002 contest and the Panoramic Photo of the Day winner on Digitalphotocontest.com for July 15, 2002.

A Ducky Sunset

The summer of 2002 brought wildfires, including the Hayman fire, during which this sunset was taken. Atmospheric particulates cause the vibrant colors. The photo was taken just as the sun was about to set and just as a bird crossed the bright reflection. I later found out that the bird was probably a grebe but somehow the title "A Grebey Sunset" just didn't fit. It was a finalist in the Betterphoto.com June 2002 contest.

My Isabelle

Lake Isabelle, in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, never fails to disappoint. The image was a finalist in the d-store Summer 2002 Contest for Week 5.

Early Morning at Long Lake

Another jewel in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. I was kneeling on a small rock in the lake and trying not to fall in! This is a stitch of 7 photos. It was the Panoramic Photo of the Day on Digitalphotocontest.com for August 2, 2002.

Golden Eagle

Taken at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies. This female golden eagle flew into Aspen Mountain and injured herself 20 years ago. She still has a certain dignity despite her inability to fly. Her portrait was the Animals Photo of the Day at Bestfoto on July 25, 2002.

Tumbling Cascade

Taken along Maroon Creek, this was a delightful small fall going over a log. It was the Photo of the Day on Sony Imagestation for July 24, 2002.

The Interior

We have no idea how these incredibly big and unusual red poppies got in our yard (a bird?). They have serrated edges and only last for a very short time. This macro was a finalist in the d-store Summer 2002 Contest for Week 2.

Saddle Bronc Rider

This rider at the Elizabeth Stampede Rodeo amazed everyone with his skills. It was a double win, taking Photo of the Day honors at Kodak.com on April 8, 2002, and Digitalphotocontest.com for June 16, 2002.
