Aglow

The Evening Glow at a balloon festival always provides beautiful photo ops. This panorama was the Photo of the Day at Photoshowdown on September 26, 2004.

On Top of the World

A Mt. Evans goat looking superior atop 14,000-foot plus rocks. The image was the Animals Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 26, 2004, and at Photoshowdown on October 2, later becoming a Finalist there as well in their October contest.

Reflections on Summit Lake

A glacial cirque contains this lake on Mt. Evans. The reflections photo was the Scenic Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 20, 2004, at Photoshowdown on October 2, and at Bestfoto on September 26.

Floating Over the Rockies

Pike's Peak had a fresh coat of snow on top from the cold front that had moved through the night before. And a few clouds were still hanging around as I rode in another hot air balloon on that chilly morning. The image was the Scenic Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 15, 2004.

In the Alpine Avens

Mountain goats like this one love to munch on the alpine aven flowers in the tundra on Mt. Evans. This goat was the Animals Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 13, 2004.

Would You Like to Fly?

A hot-air balloont trio won the Photo of the Day honors at Photoshowdown on September 13, 2004 (later becoming a finalist for that month), and at Bestfoto on September 14.

Young Bull Moose

Taken in Rocky Mountain National Park, the expression on this young moose just cracks me up! His comical portrait was the Animals Photo of the Day at Bestfoto on September 12, 2004.

Preparations

I am privileged to fly aboard a hot-air balloon each year at the Rocky Mountain Balloon Festival. Here my pilot, Kathy Smith, checks the envelope and ropes of her balloon. This photo was the Open Photo of the Day at Bestfoto on August 9, 2004 and at Photoshowdown on August 11.

His Hugeness

The rut (mating season) started early in Rocky Mountain National Park. A huge bull elk was glaring at a his competitor. The image was the Animals Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 7, 2004, and at Bestfoto on August 9, at Photoshowdown on September 14, and was a Finalist at Betterphoto for the month of September.

Magical Crested Butte

After shooting sunrise each morning up high, we could then see fantastic low-lying clouds in the valley of Crested Butte.. They became the Bestfoto Scenic Photo of the Day on August 31, 2004 and at Photoshowdown on September 5.

Together

Synchronized mountain goats trudge atop the tundra. The image was the Animals Photo of the Day at Shutterbugs on September 5, 2004, at Bestfoto on September 10, and at Photoshowdown on September 15, where it later became a 1st place winner in their monthly contest.

Bear Lake Sunrise

After a thwarted attempt at photographing Sprague Lake (the road was closed), I opted to go to Bear Lake instead. Things generally work out for the best. The sunrise was the Shutterbugs Scenic Photo of the Day on September 2, 2004.

Snowy Pines

An August snowstorm surprised me in Rocky Mountain National Park. I, being a lover of winter, was in heaven. The snowy pines were the Shutterbugs Black and White Photo of the Day on August 30, 2004 and at Photoshowdown on September 9, later becoming a Finalist in their September Contest.

Wildflower Falls

I went to visit this waterfall above Crested Butte one evening. I rolled up my pants legs and put on my aqua shoes to wade across and get closer to the wildflowers. This photo was the Shutterbugs Scenic Photo of the Day on August 27, 2004.

Baldwin Ghost Town Cabin

A leftover of the coal mining ghost town of Baldwin. The cabin became the Scenic Photo of the Day at Photoshowdown on August 25, 2004.
