Spray at the Falls

This small waterfall in Teller County became the Scenic Photo of the Day at both Bestfoto on June 24, 2004.

Come a Little Closer, My Dearie

A fox vixen in Clear Creek County shows a little tongue. It was the Animals Photo of the Day at both Shutterbugs on June 23, 2004.

Barn Owl

A resident of the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, this barn owl was quite the star. It was the Animals Photo of the Day at both Shutterbugs and Bestfoto on June 18, 2004. It was also a semifinalist in the Betterphoto June 2004 contest.

Cirque Reflections

While it was 98 degrees on the plains, I escaped to a still-frozen Summit Lake, at altitude 12,700 feet. A small tarn had started to melt and provided reflections of the glacial cirque of Mt. Evans. The image was the Shutterbugs Scenic Photo of the Day on June 16, 2004.

Don't Run

If you ever see a cougar in the wild looking like this, the expert advice is not to run. Instead, one is supposed to lift up your jacket and arms over your head to make yourself look big. This captive resides at a wild animal facility and was a finalist in the Betterphoto May 2004 contest.

Canada Goose Goslings

I love the number three, so was particularly taken with this trio of goslings. They became a finalist in the Betterphoto May 2004 contest.

Mountain Hummer

A male broadtailed hummingbird hovered just long enough for this in-flight shot. His portrait was the Photo of the Day at Imagestation on June 14, 2004.

Classic Colorado Columbine

Our official state flower in Colorado, the blue columbine. The image was the Shutterbugs Macro Photo of the Day on June 12, 2004.

Kestrel Portrait

Posing in a blue spruce tree, this kestrel became my favorite of all the birds at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program, a rehabilitation facility. He was the Shutterbugs Animals Photo of the Day on June 11, 2004, and was a finalist in the Animals Category in the Betterphoto May 2004 contest.

Plunging Into the Caldera

There is a huge volcanic area formed long ago in the area of North Clear Creek Falls. Today we get to enjoy this view as a result; it is one of the biggest and most impressive waterfalls in Colorado, as it plunges a hundred feet off the cliffs into the caldera below. This photo was the Bestfoto Black and White Photo of the Day on June 10, 2004.

Just Opened

A spring background sets off the Colorado columbine. The flower was the Shutterbugs Macro Photo of the Day on June 9, 2004, and was a finalist in the Betterphoto May 2004 contest.

Ferruginous Hawk

Another resident of the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program got the honors of the Bestfoto Animals Photo of the Day on June 8, 2004.

Who Let the Dogs Out

The prairie dog babies were out for a romp in the wildflowers. They became the Shutterbugs Animals Photo of the Day on June 3, 2004.

Baby Cottontail

No wonder the rabbit is a symbol of Easter and spring. This little one was the Shutterbugs Animals Photo of the Day on May 5, 2004.

Red Mountain Coyote

A coyote on Red Mountain Pass became the Bestfoto Animals Photo of the Day on May 20, 2004.

Steller's Jay

My favorite of all the jays, this colorful crested male was the Imagestation Photo of the Day on May 18, 2004.

South Clear Creek Falls

A short hike took us to this lovely fall near Creede, Colorado. It was the Shutterbugs Scenic Photo of the Day on May 16, 2004.

Spring Flow

Snows in the high country melt rapidly in spring, and it's an ideal time to photograph waterfalls. This is Silver Falls. The image was the Shutterbugs Scenic Photo of the Day on May 14, 2004.

Mountain Bluebird

My friend Andy is host to many bluebirds on his rural property in Elbert County Colorado. This male mountain bluebird was the Shutterbugs Animals Photo of the Day on May 6, 2004, and also on Bestfoto.
